Sound Links Analysis

1. Industrial Noise Lover- Futurist Precursors to Music Incorporating Everyday Sounds:
Antonio Russolo’s piece is a culmination of many sounds. It begins rather harshly with a severe thundering noise, yet there is a soft calmness to the other sounds being played with it. The piece continues and becomes very dramatic. At one point there are sounds similar to banging two blocks together, which makes it feel as if someone is being chased. There is a rhythm to all the sounds that makes the work flow together and make it interesting to listen to.
2. Sound Environments in Film and Art Installation:
Janek Schaefer describes his installation about a vacant spaces film that he made. As he plugs his headphones into the wall, the sound of something similar to a car passing is heard. It makes it feel like you are in that space and not just in a blank room staring at a projection. Viewing the images without sound makes the piece very uninteresting; however, once the snippets of sound are played a whole new dimension is added to the piece. It adds life and character to the spaces. Sound really influences how we perceive things.
3. Nike abstract sound ad:
The high squeaking noise in the commercial from the shoes immediately grabs the viewer’s attention since it is such a piercing noise. A sort of rhythm is created from the bouncing of a basketball. Ambient clapping keeps the viewers interest. The sound in the commercial comes to a halt for a split second in the middle when a whistle blows. The sound of the bouncing ball and squeaking then picks back up, but is instead louder and faster. This creates a feeling of suspension and intrigue.
